The BBC National Orchestra of Wales premiered my comedy overture, Les at Leisure at the Lichfield Festival on 13 July conducted by Finnish conductor Dalia Stasevska. The performance was recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The work is inspired by the musicianship of the late and great Les Dawson. I spoke on both BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme and BBC Breakfast ahead of the premiere in a feature by BBC Arts correspondant David Silito. It was all great fun, and the news story even managed to get onto page 13 of the Daily Telegraph the following morning – not bad for a contemporary orchestral work!

Meanwhile, the BBC Singers recorded my little carol, ‘Sweet was the Song’ despite the London heatwave, and this will be broadcast in December on BBC Radio 3.
